Saying For Today: Your devotion to Life leads you naturally, then, to do, to act, and to take responsibility in freedom, not any sense that you are supposed to do this or that, be this or that. |
Brian K. Wilcox, a Chaplain, vowed Contemplative in the Christian tradition, Associate of Greenbough House of Prayer, and Postulant of the Order of St. Anthony the Great, offers an interspiritual work focusing on cultivating the Heart of Compassion. His book of mystical Love poetry is An Ache for Union: Poems on Oneness with God through Love. Brian integrates wisdom from the major spiritual Paths. May you always know that you are blessed!

This is the secret of the teaching. It may be so, but it is not always so. Without being caught by words and rules, without many preconceived ideas, we actually do something, and doing something, we apply our teaching.
Shunryu Suzuki. Not Always So.

The mind seeks security in this is the way it always is or this is the way it ought to be. Freedom means releasing the tight grip on how life ought to be, including rules and ideas. At some point in this Journey, life wants to fly free of such constraints. This does not negate ideas or rules or absolutes. This simply means you no longer have any need to keep them in mind or make a big deal about it all, as you once did. You are too involved in life directly. You are enjoying freedom, a responsible freedom, for you have grown to trust Grace and not all the talk and teaching about life. Endless books are written about life, but, finally, only Life can teach you about life. Your devotion to Life, or Presence, leads you naturally, then, to do, to act, and to take responsibility in freedom, not any sense that you are supposed to do this or that, be this or that. Without imposing on life some idea or teaching, you can be with Grace in life, and this is a blessed communion. You are no longer in a war against life, for you no longer see life as against you, needing to be controlled or manipulated in any way. There is a lot of wisdom in the little saying "It is what it is."
